Is Your Brand Falling Behind? Mid-Year Is the Moment to Realign Your Visual Story

May 22, 2025 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

Here we are—nearly halfway through the year already. Can you believe it? Somewhere between juggling client work, planning summer holidays, and maybe sneaking in a breather (or trying to), time has quietly flown by.

But here’s something worth pausing for:

Is your brand’s visual story still aligned with the business you’re actively building—or is it costing you clients and making it harder to grow the way you know you’re meant to?

As your business evolves, your visuals need to keep pace. When they don’t, it creates subtle friction—both for you and for your audience. The good news? You don’t need to start from scratch. Sometimes, it’s just about refreshing what no longer fits and creating space for the brand you’re stepping into.

Let’s walk through a few thoughtful steps to help you check in with your brand visuals—and make sure they’re still doing justice to the magic of what you’re building.

Step 1: If Your Photos Feel Stale, So Might Your First Impression

Look at Your Brand Photography with Fresh Eyes

Your brand photos are often the first “hello” your audience gets. They should feel like you—your vibe, your values, your voice—all wrapped up in beautiful imagery. So ask yourself:

● Do your photos still reflect the tone of your business today?

● Do they feel cohesive across your website, social media, and marketing pieces?

● Most importantly—do they still resonate with the people you’re trying to reach?

If you’re finding some older photos feel a little off, or maybe your last shoot captured a version of you that you’ve grown past—that’s okay. It might be time for a refresh that feels more like the now version of you.

Step 2: Scattered Visuals Lead to Scattered Messaging

Audit the Visual Whole Picture

Think of your brand identity like a living, breathing thing. It’s not just your logo or color palette—it’s how everything feels together. When someone lands on your site or scrolls through your feed, is the story they’re seeing still true to your brand?

Take a few moments to check in with:

Your Logo and Colours

Do they still feel like a natural extension of your brand? Or are they starting to feel a little dusty?

Your Website and Social Media

Is there visual consistency? Do the fonts, colours, and images feel aligned? Or are things starting to drift in different directions?

Your Marketing Materials

From brochures to client guides to newsletters—are they visually working together, or does it feel like a patchwork?

A cohesive visual identity builds trust. And trust leads to connection.

Step 3: Without Clear Direction, a Refresh Can Miss the Mark

Refresh with Intention (Not Just for the Sake of It)

If your gut is telling you it’s time to update your visuals, lean into that feeling—but do it with heart. Before jumping into a new photoshoot or design update, take a beat to define your direction:

● What energy do you want your visuals to evoke?

● What colours, textures, or tones represent this next chapter of your brand?

● What story are you inviting your audience into?

This is where brand photography becomes less about “pretty pictures” and more about visual storytelling. When done right, your photos become your voice without saying a word.

And if you’re not quite sure where to start—that’s okay. You’re not meant to do it all alone. A brand photographer (hello!) can help you bring that vision into focus.

Step 4: Trends Fade Fast—Authenticity Lasts

Stay Connected with What’s Current—But Stay True to You

Trends are helpful—they can spark ideas and keep your visuals feeling modern. But they should never pull you away from your authenticity. If minimalism speaks to you, go for it. If bold, vibrant storytelling feels more like your style, lean in. Let trends inspire—but not define—you.

A few modern touches that can be powerful:

● Cleaner, more intentional design

● Brand photos that feel real, not overly posed

● A touch of motion or interactivity (think behind-the-scenes reels or scroll-friendly website movement)

● And yes, a sprinkle of user-generated content if it feels aligned

Realignment Now Can Prevent Confusion Later

Doing a brand audit doesn’t mean tearing it all down. It’s about listening in. Noticing what still feels aligned and what could use a little love.

Sometimes, it’s just one photo that needs updating. Or one page on your website that could use a little zhuzh. Other times, it’s a deeper shift that calls for a full visual reset.

Wherever you are in that process, be proud of how far your brand has come. You’re evolving—and your visuals should get to evolve with you.

And if you’re feeling ready to step into a new season with visuals that feel like you again, I’d love to help you tell that story.

Rebrand or Refresh? Know the Difference Before You Miss the Moment

May 17, 2025 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

There’s something about change that feels both exciting and a little intimidating, isn’t there?

But here’s the truth: if your brand photos no longer reflect who you are or where your business is going, they’re not just outdated—they’re actively holding you back.

Maybe the version of your business that shows up online feels a little off. Or your photos don’t match the energy you bring to your work anymore. And if you’ve been quietly wondering whether it’s time for an update… that quiet nudge might actually be the sign.

Because when your visuals don’t evolve with you, you risk falling out of alignment—and falling off your dream client’s radar. Let’s unpack the difference between a refresh and a full rebrand, and talk about exactly when and why to update your photos—so you can make a clear, confident move forward before your momentum slips.

Refresh = Realignment. Rebrand = Reinvention. Which One Does Your Brand Really Need?

Think of a brand refresh like rearranging your living room. The couch stays, but maybe the art changes, the colours get warmer, and you swap the pillows for something that feels more “you” right now. The bones are the same, but the vibe gets a glow-up.

A rebrand, on the other hand, is more like moving houses. It’s a full reset—a new address, new layout, and maybe even a different neighbourhood. It usually means new messaging, new positioning, and yes, a whole new visual story.

Here’s a simple way to think about it:

Go for a refresh if:

● Your core message still feels true.

● You just want to modernize your visuals or align with a recent shift (like targeting a new audience).

● You’re craving cohesion and clarity, not a full identity shift.

Go for a rebrand if:

● Your business has taken a major turn—new offers, new mission, or even a new name.

● You’re not attracting the right people anymore.

● Your visuals and messaging feel completely disconnected from where you’re headed.

Your Brand Photos Are Speaking—Are They Saying the Right Thing?

Your brand photos are often the first impression people get—and we all know how lasting first impressions can be. But here’s the thing: your imagery isn’t just about looking polished. It’s about helping people feel something.

Done well, your photography communicates your values, personality, and energy—often before a single word is read.

Here’s why your photos matter so much:

● They build trust. Warm, well-thought-out imagery helps your audience connect and feel safe with you.

● They create consistency. Across your website, social media, and marketing materials, they tie everything together.

● They show evolution. When you update your photos, you’re not just changing visuals—you’re making space for growth.

These Are the Signs You Can’t Ignore

Here are a few signs it might be time for a refresh (or more):

You’ve outgrown your old images.

Maybe your style has shifted. Or you’ve launched something new that doesn’t show up in your current visuals. If your photos no longer feel aligned with who you are today, that’s your cue.

Your visuals feel tired.

Trends shift—and even more importantly, you shift. If your photos feel dated or no longer evoke excitement, it might be time for a brand refresh shoot.

Engagement is dipping.

If your audience isn’t responding like they used to, your visuals could be sending mixed signals. A fresh photoshoot might reawaken that spark.

Your market is evolving.

If the people you serve are growing—and you want to grow with them—it makes sense to revisit how you’re showing up visually.

Timing Matters: How Often Is “Too Long” Between Brand Shoots?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. But here’s a rhythm that works for many entrepreneurs and small businesses:

● Every 12–18 months: A light brand refresh—updating portraits, seasonal imagery, or any visuals that no longer feel in sync.

● Every 2–4 years: Consider a deeper look at your full brand story. If a big shift is on the horizon, this might be the moment for a rebrand and a more intentional, strategy-led photoshoot.

Of course, some industries move faster. And if you’re a personal brand, even subtle changes in your energy and focus are worth capturing.

Don’t Guess—Start With a Clear, Actionable Plan

Not sure where to begin? Here’s a simple flow:

Start with a visual audit.

Take a look at your current images—on your website, LinkedIn, Instagram, anywhere you show up. Do they still feel like you? Are they cohesive? Do they still tell the right story?

Clarify your goal.

Are you realigning with your audience? Launching something new? Wanting more confidence in how you show up online?

Partner with the right photographer.

This step really matters. Your brand photographer should be someone who gets you—someone who sees who you are, not just what you do. (Hi, friend. That’s our sweet spot.)

Create a visual style guide.

Even if it’s just for you and your team, having clarity on colours, mood, and style will help keep your visuals aligned long after the shoot.

Check in regularly.

Make space once or twice a year to revisit your imagery. A little intentionality goes a long way in staying visually connected to your evolving brand.

This Isn’t a Visual Update. It’s a Bottom-Line Business Decision.

Whether you’re refreshing your brand or stepping into a full rebrand, this is about showing up with clarity, consistency, and confidence in a season of growth.

Your visuals shape how people experience your brand. When they’re outdated or misaligned, opportunities quietly slip by. But when they reflect who you truly are—and where you’re headed—they open doors.

So if you’ve been wondering if now’s the time, trust that nudge. Your next chapter deserves to be seen.

And if you’re ready to get started, I’m here to help you bring it to life—with imagery that feels like you and works like magic.

Headshots vs. Personal Brand Photography

February 23, 2025 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

Whenever I introduce myself as a photographer specialising in Personal Branding, I can see the question mark on my interlocutor’s face. I often hear,’ Is that like corporate headshots?’ Personal Branding is still unknown and underrated, but with increasing competition in the corporate world, it is even more important. So let’s chat about the difference and why everybody should consider choosing Personal Brand Images over headshots.

Headshots serve a specific purpose: they’re professional portraits focusing mainly on your face, designed for identification purposes or to accompany your resume. They excel at presenting a clean, well-lit version of yourself—ideal for being easily recognized.

Personal Branding Photography goes deeper. Its purpose is to create a detailed narrative that reflects your identity, career, and the passion behind your work, the who, the what and the why. These images offer insights into your personality, work environment, and expertise, connecting with your ideal client and positioning you as their top choice.

Why should Personal Branding Photography be your pick over a simple headshot? Here’s what sets it apart:

A Holistic Storytelling Approach

Personal Branding Photography narrates the full story of your professional life. It beautifully captures your essence, your working environment, and your skills.

Creating Connections

These images don’t just introduce you; they invite viewers into your world, making them feel like they’re getting to know you on a personal level. This familiarity and trust are crucial, as individuals tend to gravitate towards doing business with real people rather than impersonal entities, especially for services.

Diverse Content

A personal branding session offers a rich variety of shots. You’ll have environmental photos that might catch you at your desk or engaging with clients, lifestyle pictures that portray you in various activities, and perhaps snapshots of brand components that represent your values and tastes.

In summary, choosing between a headshot and Personal Branding Photography hinges on what you aim to communicate to your audience. If you’re looking to tell a richer, more engaging story about who you are and the value you bring, personal branding imagery is undoubtedly the way to go.

Planning a Personal Brand Photoshoot

March 12, 2024 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

Guest Blog Post from Home and Life Organisation Coach Nathalie Ricaud, founder of Get Organised and Beyond.

Last year, as part of my business rebranding, I needed images for my new website.  The choice of the photographer was easy: Silke from Zebra & Jojo Photography who specialises in visual brand storytelling for female-led businesses.  I had been following her for many years and was patiently waiting for the right opportunity to hire her as I knew her style would be perfect for my brand.  I wasn’t disappointed, I love the pictures she took.

The thing I was not prepared for though was how much planning a brand photoshoot was entailing.  I knew it would be more than just showing my face – and ideally my best smile, not an easy one – and let the photographer work her magic, but I hadn’t anticipated that so much planning was needed beforehand.  Well, my organising skills quickly kicked in (good thing as that’s what I do for a living!) and the preparations and photoshoot went smoothly.

Silke thought the list I had put together to keep everything in check could benefit many of her clients so I’m sharing it with you here today together with a few tips.  Of course, not all will apply to you, but I hope it can save you time and avoid you some costly mistakes.

Here’s my list of things to do before a brand photoshoot, once you’ve hired your photographer:

3 weeks before the photoshoot:

  • Tell the photographer about your business, personality and values as well as the scenarios and stories you want to be portrayed in the photoshoot
  • Share images with the photographer that you like and illustrate the points above

If you work with an experienced brand photographer like Silke, she will guide through these steps very seamlessly.

2 weeks before the photoshoot:

  • Conduct a photoshoot planning session with the photographer, and the stylist if one is involved (mine was Patricia from Fancy Girl Design Studio), to discuss the stories to be told, the compositions, the props needed, your outfits etc.
  • Plan your outfits, in line with your brand and logo colours, including shoes and jewellery.  Try them on to make sure you’re comfortable in them.  Share them with your photographer so she knows what to expect and make recommendations.
  • Schedule grooming sessions – think facial, pedicure/manicure, makeup, hairdo, etc.
  • Make a list of the props needed and whether you have them, need to borrow them or to buy them
  • Reach out to your friends if you need to portray clients in your photoshoot.  Make sure they represent your target client and that they make you feel at ease, especially if like myself you feel quite nervous in front of a camera.  And plan some back-up!!  On the morning of the photoshoot, one of the two friends who were supposed to be involved in my photoshoot informed me that her son had got covid and that she shouldn’t take the risk of spreading the virus.  Good thing I had a back-up otherwise I’d have been quite stressed out!
  • Engage help to set up the props for the photoshoot.  Our session was quite intense, and I had barely time to breathe.  I was quite grateful for one of my friends to be there to help the stylist with the set-up.  Also, that person can help you take photos or videos if you want to share behind the scenes shots.

1 week before the photoshoot:

  • Gather the props needed
  • Create a WhatsApp group with all the people involved in the photoshoot to facilitate the exchange of information – do include exact address and timing of the photoshoot
  • Help your friends select their outfits so that they are in line with your brand and the scenarios they will be involved in, and won’t be clashing with your own outfits

3 days before the photoshoot:

  • Get your facial done
  • Remind your friends of the photoshoot

The day before the photoshoot:

  • Pack the props and outfits by scenario
  • Get your pedicure / manicure done
  • Have a good night sleep so that you are fully rested

The day of the photoshoot:

  • Send a last reminder to your friends
  • Get your hair and make-up done, unless your make-up artist/hairdresser can be on the set with you.  Not only it will save you time for the last-minute tasks you might have to complete but they can also do some touch-ups during the photoshoot.
  • Run last minute errands – such as buying fresh flowers.
  • Eat well: a photoshoot can be quite intense, I was grateful I had a good lunch to give me the energy I needed.
  • Leave your home early: you don’t want to arrive on the set stressed, sweaty and dishevelled!

I hope the above list and tips help.  What else would you add?

How to showcase your Authentic Personal Brand through Photography

January 12, 2024 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

In the bustling digital landscape we navigate today, harnessing the power of a personal brand is more critical than ever for entrepreneurs, influencers and professionals. Your personal brand doesn’t just share your narrative – it distinguishes you in a saturated market. As a personal brand photographer, I understand that branded photography isn’t merely about taking photos; it’s about capturing the very essence of your identity and what you stand for.

1. Embrace the Power of Authenticity

Let’s talk about the bedrock of personal branding photography: authenticity. It’s all about making a genuine connection. Your audience wants to see the real you, so it’s vital that your photos portray your true personality and core values. Reflect on what sets you apart and think carefully about how you wish to be perceived. This foundational step ensures that the authenticity of your personal narrative shines through in every shot.

2. Tailor the Photography Style to your Brand

No two personal brands are alike, and neither should be their visual representations. Customising your photoshoot is crucial. Determine the style and tone that best convey your personal brand: consider your color scheme, the lighting, the composition, and the overall aesthetic feel. These elements should be in total harmony with your brand, reinforcing your message and connecting with your audience on a deeper level.

3. Showcase Personality in poses and expressions

Photoshoots are your stage – embrace it! Let your personality take the spotlight. Authentic expressions and natural poses go a long way in creating relatable and engaging imagery. Experiment with different poses and allow your true self to emerge. Remember, authenticity is compelling. Showing who you are can help cultivate a closer bond with your audience.

Harnessing personal brand photography enables you to effectively showcase your authenticity to the world. By mastering the principles of authenticity, adapting your visual style, and presenting your true self, you create a personal brand that not only grabs attention but also resonates profoundly with your target audience. Keep in mind, your personal brand narrates your distinct story, and through photography, you can visually engage and inspire your viewers, leaving a lasting impression.

By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to creating a personal brand that’s not only recognisable but truly unforgettable. Start your journey today and let the world see the real you through your bespoke personal brand photography.

Why branded imagery is no luxury

May 29, 2023 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

If you think branded imagery for your business is a mere luxury you underestimate the power of carefully designed visuals.

In today’s fast-paced and visually driven world, businesses are constantly seeking ways to capture attention, connect with customers, and boost sales. One powerful strategy that accomplishes all of these objectives gives is the use of branded images. By crafting visuals that embody a brand’s essence, businesses can create a meaningful connection with their target audience, leading to increased sales. Let’s see why.

  1. An image is worth… (you know how it goes)

Think about the last time an image caught your eye and made you stop scrolling. Branded images have this exact power. Did you know that visuals are processed 60 thousand times faster than text? They’re an irresistible magnet for our attention. When businesses use captivating branded images, they stand out amidst the sea of information, compelling customers take notice.

2. Emotional Connection

When looking at an image that resonates with you, it automatically puts a smile on your face, right? Branded images have a unique ability to evoke emotions and connect on a deeper level. By aligning visual elements with brand’s values, businesses can tap into the hearts and minds of their audience. Isn’t it interesting that emotionally connected customers are more than twice as valuable as highly satisfied customers. Read that again.

3. Building Trust and Recognition

How many times have you chosen a product or service from a brand you recognise and trust? Building brand recognition is crucial for customer conversions. According to a study, 59% of consumers prefer to buy products from brands they recognise. Branded images play a significant role in this process. By consistently using visual elements, like logo, colours, and styles, businesses create familiarity and build trust.

4. Shaping Perception

We’ve all judged a book by it’s cover, and the same applies to brands. The way customer perceive a brand greatly influences their purchasing decisions, as 75% of consumers judge a company’s credibility based on its website design. A visually appealing and consistent visual identity, including branded images, can shape the way customers perceive your brand.

5. Sparking Social Media Engegement

Social media has become a vibrant space for businesses to engage with customers. Branded images play a pivotal role in capturing attention and driving engagement on these platforms. Consider this: Facebook posts with images receive 2.3 times more engagement than those without. Visuals are key to sparking conversations, shares, and likes.

Branded images have the power to captivate attention, forge emotional connections, build trust and recognition, shape brand perception, and drive social media engagement. They are an essential ingredient in successful marketing strategies, enabling businesses to connect deeply with their customers and increase sales.

So, what are you waiting for? Are you ready to harness the power of branded images and take your sales to new heights? If so, get in touch and let’s have a chat.

“Once upon a time…”- Cohesive storytelling

October 17, 2022 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

Who doesn’t love a good story? As soon as our brains are capable of comprehensive listening we long for stories. So it’s no surprise that the secret sauce of every successful brand is cohesive storytelling, next to consistent marketing and spot on branding of course.

The ability to tell a story that emotionally touches and engages your audience is priceless. For most of us telling a story to a child or friend is no trouble at all.

But how to you tell the story of your brand? It all starts with the pressing question of

“Who are you?”

The biggest mistake most business owners make is being in love with their products or service, not with their clients. You have an outstanding product or extraordinary service but no one is buying? Truth is, people don’t fall in love with a business, they fall in love with the person behind it. In order for your ideal client to purchase from you, they first need to get to know you, because:

We don’t buy goods or services, we buy relations, stories and magic. -Seth Godin

Don’t be shy to showcase all the different sides of your personality, ranging from the bubbly bestie to the focused business woman. Share that cup of coffee and why it energises you, or talk about the latest experience you had in that calligraphy workshop. Let people in on where you get your best ideas from or why running is your way of mediation. Tell your followers what inspires you, why you do what you do, share your values and beliefs.

In other words, give a holistic and authentic insight on what they are dealing with when engaging with you.

“What do you do?”

Help your audience understand what it is that differentiates you from all the others by explaining your process and workflow. What is it people gain by hiring you? What problem do you solve for your clients? Break everything down so it would be easy to understand, even for a five year old. Remember, you are the expert, not us. If you’re selling a product, let us in on how you source. Is sustainability just a word for you or do you live it?

Make choosing YOU and your business the only choice for your prospective clients.

Cohesive storytelling should align both literally and visually, so make sure you have the imagery to go with the storytelling. You don’t have? Oh well, then hit the button below and let’s have a chat!

Let’s chat!

You are not a ‘before’ Picture

September 14, 2022 by Silke Dietz Leave a Comment

A Branding Photoshoot is not a beauty contest. It’s important that you represent yourself as the woman you are: authentic and professional.

‘I need to lose twenty pounds before I can do the photoshoot for my website’ or ‘I prefer to use stock photos because I don’t want my online visitors to see that I’m a bit older.’ Do you have similar excuses why you shy away from having a branding photoshoot done for your business? I totally get it. We’re all having our perceived flaws and most of us are beyond the forgivable age of twenty.

Here’s why it is irrelevant that you need to lose weight or hire a PT first:

1. Your audience doesn’t care what you look like

Let’s say you’re looking for a new accountant, or maybe real estate agent. You google your way through the websites and honestly, do you really care what the person looks like? Isn’t it more important that the person behind the business makes a likeable impression? And even more importantly, to find a person behind the business at all?

2. Yellow teeth, wrinkles, blemishes and all

When you meet in person, your personality makes up for a lot of visual flaws. A photo is static and you could even zoom in OMG. I’ll make sure your teeth are just bright enough, your wrinkles become inconspicuous and your impurities disappear completely. You’ll stay you, in an elevated reality, incredibly fresh, photogenic and professional. After all your client should still recognise you at your first meeting, right? Feel free to browse through my portfolio, where you will meet many women of all facets, all radiant.

3. Personality wanted!

People don’t fall in love with a business, they fall in love with the person behind it! Dare to show off your personality in your photoshoot by being yourself. If that’s not enough, there are plenty of props which help to get the job done. Are you a coffee addict, or wine lover? Wanna get buried in books or blow some confetti? What about making funny faces? The list is endless and it all leads to this: authentic images showing personality resonate with your ideal clients. In other words: Nothing sells better than personality.

Beauty – noun: A term that not only describes the outside, but above and all a positive inner radiance

The imagery we’re creating in your Personal Branding Photoshoot are not about your appearance, but who you are and what problems you can solve for your clients. My job is to make sure you look radiant and approachable. The only danger: you might fall in love with your new images.
